Turkey’s Togg EV Receives 100,000 Pre-Orders in 7 Days

Earlier this month, Turkey’s first indigenous electric car maker Togg unveiled the prices of its first model, which debuted in November 2022. The previously unnamed C-segment electric SUV has been named T10X.

The standard-range model T10X cost 953,000 Turkish Liras (approximately $50,200) to 1.05 million liras (approximately $55,600), while the long-range model will cost 1.215 million Liras (approximately $64,000). Pre-orders for the TOGG T10X were being taken online from March 16th to 27th, with deliveries set to commence soon after.

Togg revealed that the T10X has gotten an amazing response from consumers, with 100,000 preorders placed within the first 7 days. The first set of buyers to receive the vehicle will be determined by a draw that is planned to deliver 12,000 T10Xs in the initial phase. However looking at the overwhelming response, Togg said it now plans to deliver 20,000 units of T10Xs to buyers via the draw.

Every individual user who creates a Tru.ID through the Trumore app or the Togg website is eligible to enter the draw by configuring the T10X they want to preorder and transferring the TL 60,000 deposit to the Trumore e-Wallet using a credit card or money transfer. In response, Turks have been swarming online seeking to be among the first owners of the country’s first locally built vehicle.

T10X would be initially sold with a single electric motor and two battery options. The model features a range of 314 or 523 kilometers, depending on the battery size. The first version of the T10X is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, while the second, for which delivery will start on October 29, can do 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The second version (dual motor) also sports an all-wheel drive, featuring 320 kW power (435 hp).

At fast-charging stations, the Togg T10X batteries can be recharged to 80% from 20% in less than 28 minutes. Drivers can choose from 6 different color options for the electric vehicle.

Branding itself as a technology company that integrates digital and physical experiences, Togg has teamed up with various startups to establish a new mobility ecosystem. Besides the SUV, Togg will manufacture another 4 models – a C-segment sedan, C-hatchback, B-SUV, and B-MPV – through the year 2030. The sedan will be the second model to be mass-produced after the T10X SUV.

Togg earlier said it aimed to produce up to 20,000 cars in its first year. While the current production capacity stands at around 100,000 vehicles per year, a figure that is expected to reach 175,000 once Togg’s factory reaches full capacity. The company aims to produce 1 million vehicles across the five segments by 2030.

EV sales in Turkey surged by 172% year-over-year in 2022 to reach 7,300 units, according to industry data. However, their share remained just under 1% within the total vehicle market, which stood at around 783,000 units last year. Although the total number of EVs increased almost twofold last year but stayed at around 15,000 units. In what has been seen as a boost to the national car project, Turkey would impose an additional 40% customs duty on electric vehicles originating from China.
