After an absence of 8 years, Great Wall Motors (GWM) is about to re-enter the sedan segment by launching a 5.5-meter luxury sedan. It will be positioned under a new brand (codename ZX) and will compete against the likes of up-market marques such as Hongqi, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce.

GWM started manufacturing sedans in the early 1990s. Then between 2010 and 2016, its Voleex series of sedans was quite popular in Chinese domestic and selected overseas markets. Especially the Voleex C30 was a sales hit, as well as the C50 sedan. However, due to the depleting demand, the company pulled the plugs off the Voleex series in 2016.

According to Autohome, GWM is now developing a new luxurious sedan for a high-end NEV brand called ZX. A first render image of this vehicle has also been shared which shows us a side profile of a black saloon with a high bonnet line with a flattened front bumper, large wheels with 8-spoke rims, a low beltline, hidden door handles and cameras instead of rear-view mirrors.
The source report claims that the ZX sedan will measure 5.5 meters in length, making it slightly shorter than the Rolls-Royce Ghost but with an extended wheelbase. It will also be powered by a pure-electric powertrain the details of which are unknown at this stage. A timeline hasn’t been revealed either regarding the debut of the new sedan.
