China has recently surpassed Germany to become the second largest vehicle exporter of the world. And as we move on towards the end of this year, the gap between German and Chinese vehicle exports continue to widen.

In the first three quarters of 2022, China exported a total of 2.117 million vehicles in contrast to 180,000 units exported by Germany. In terms of vehicle export volume, China is now only behind Japan which is the largest vehicle exporter of the world.
The European market is a huge opportunity for Chinese automakers. According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), during the first 8 months of this year, Chinese automakers exported 193,000 vehicles to Europe and the number is expected to rise exponentially as more & more companies from China are tapping the European market.

BYD, NIO, Voyah, MG, Xpeng, and GWM are beginning to carve a niche for themselves in the European market with relatively cheaper cars manufactured in China & exported to Europe. BYD, ORA, WEY and Leapmotor recently showcased their cars at the 2022 Paris Motor Show and the massive reception they got has already irked the European carmakers. Not to mention the Chinese vehicles are getting good attention from European customers due to lower price, almost zero maintenance (EVs) and impressive equipment on offer while boasting full 5-star crash test scores under Euro NCAP’s most stringent testing protocols.
In terms of export value, the United States, Mexico, Japan, Belgium, Britain, Russia, Germany, South Korea, Australia, and Saudi Arabia are the top 10 countries that China exports cars to. The cumulative export value is 46.07 billion USD, accounting for 46% of China’s total car exports. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), below are the top 15 vehicle exporters from China as of the first 9 months (January-September) of this calendar year.
