This isn’t the first time in recent past that Javed Afridi has hinted the launch of new MG cars in Pakistan. Earlier in March, the said MG will launch 3 local assembled vehicles including the MG5 (MG GT), the MG3 hatchback as well as the Gloster 7-seat SUV. The MG5 GT comes available in two engine options – a 1.5L naturally aspirated unit delivering 118hp as well as a 1.5L turbocharged unit good for 171 hp, however according to sources we will be getting the naturally aspirated version. The vehicle will come rich in features & safety equipment, though no information on price is available yet.
Reportedly, the MG plant in Pakistan is all set to roll out locally assembled units however according to a company official, MG Motors has not yet received a manufacturing license since it applied in September 2021, adding that the company intends to start local assembly after getting the license. The total investment in MG assembly is $100m. He said officials of the Engineering Development Board (EDB) are reviewing the Phase I site in Lahore, while the Phase II site is under construction.
