All New 2023 Toyota Yaris Ativ Debuts in Thailand

The all-new 4th generation Toyota Yaris sedan has finally made its debut in Thailand where its called as Yaris Ativ. The vehicle is also marketed as Vios/ Yaris in various other markets. The latest iteration of Toyota’s popular B-segment sedan is built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform and comes as a replacement of the XP150 model that we have here.

In terms of dimensions, the new Yaris Ativ is slightly larger than its predecessor, measuring in at 4,425 mm long, 1,740 mm wide and 1,480 mm tall making it 5 mm longer, 10 mm wider and 5 mm taller than the old model. However, the wheelbase has significantly increased to 2,620 mm which is 70 mm more than before thus contributing to a generous interior space.

The styling is a mix of Camry and Corolla. At the front, there is a slim upper grille with Toyota badge in between, below which there is a larger horizontally slatted lower grille, joined by prominent faux air inlets at the corners of the bumper. The angular headlamps sports L-shaped DRLs which are mounted just beneath the upper grille near the bonnet shut line.

The bonnet makes up much of the fender and is joined by a distinct character line that runs down the vehicle’s sides through the door handles, with a second line parallel to it further down. The side mirrors are mounted at the A-pillars, while the wheel arches are slightly recessed. Moreover, the window line stretches further back and the door openings have been widened as well. There is an additional rear quarter glass below which there are multiple creases that originates from the rear and fades around the read door.

The rear-end features slim and more angular taillight clusters. The lower apron mimics the front a little by incorporating slender faux air outlets, while the reflectors are integrated into a subtle diffuser-like element. The rear lights feature sequential turn signals while a shark-fin antenna and 7-spoke alloy wheels round up the exterior highlights of the new Yaris Ativ.

Inside, the Mazda-inspired dashboard features a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system. The center console gets a small storage cubby, the handbrake or electronic parking brake, and two switches to control the 64-color ambient lighting system. The all-new Yaris Ativ is available in 4 trims, Sport, Smart, Premium, and Premium Luxury, and comes in 7 exterior colors, namely Urban Metal, Spicy Scarlet, Platinum White Pearl (Premium and Premium Luxury only), Super White II (Smart and Sport only), Attitude Black Mica, Metal Stream Metallic and Red Mica Metallic.

Talking about the trims, the base Sport variant comes with full LED headlamps as standard, along with 16-inch alloys, fabric upholstery, a regular multi-info display, an 8-inch touchscreen head unit (with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and T-Connect telematics), keyless entry and engine start, 2 speakers and manual air-conditioning with rear vents.

6 airbags (front, side, and curtain) are standard on the base variant, along with the usual array of passive systems like VSC, traction control, ABS, EBD, brake assist, emergency stop signal, and hill start assist. All variants including the base model get 3 drive modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport).

Then comes the Smart variant that gains automatic headlamps with LED DRLs, soft-touch interior surfaces, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen head unit, front and rear parking cameras, and 4 speakers. The safety kit also gets enhanced to include a few Toyota Safety Sense items such as Pre-Collision System (AEB), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Front Departure Alert, and Pedal Mis-operation Control.

The Premium variant has everything that the Smart variant has, but is added with 2 front parking sensors (the default is four at the rear), 6-speakers, automatic air-conditioning (with PM2.5 air filter), a panoramic view monitor, DRLs that double as sequential turn signals, a 64-color ambient lighting system, blind spot monitor, an electronic parking brake (with auto brake hold), rear disc brakes (lesser variants get rear drum brakes), rear cross-traffic alert and automatic high beam.

Lastly, the flagship Premium Luxury variant gets all of Premium’s features, with the addition of gloss black side mirrors, a red-themed interior, leather upholstery, and ambient lighting elements to include door panels & console, as well as a 6-speaker Pioneer sound system.

To comply with Thailand’s eco-car regulations, the new Yaris Ativ gets a 1.2L naturally-aspirated 3NR-VE four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 93 hp and 110 Nm as standard for all variants. The E20-compliant Dual VVT-iE DOHC engine is paired with a Super CVT-i gearbox and is claimed to deliver 23.3 km in a liter while meeting Euro 5 emission standards. There will be different engine choices available for other markets.

As for prices, the Sport variant retails at 539,000 baht (PKR 34.10 lac), followed by the Smart at 584,000 baht (PKR 36.95 lac). The Premium version sells at 659,000 baht (PKR 41.69 lac) and the flagship Premium Luxury is available for 689,000 baht (PKR 43.59 lac). Plus there is a range of accessories available for the latest Yaris Ativ such as the Lusso package that adds on dual-tone skirting and a rear boot lid spoiler for an additional 19,900 baht (Rs 126,000). There is also the Chiaro package which adds more chrome accents for 8,690 baht (Rs 55,000) and the Presto package which adds sporty stickers, dual-tone decals, and a more aggressive body kit for 17,500 baht (Rs 110,000).
